NO

Norton Antivirus is bloated and will slow your system down.

McAfee is horrid as well

I use Avast! Home Edition.. It’s free and it works flawlessly. I’ll include a download link in the sources area. I used to use AVG Free Edition, but it didn’t catch a virus I was infected with so I stopped using it. Avast, its the way to go.

You should pair your antivirus program with a really good malware scanner & run it every couple weeks. I use Malwarebytes AntiMalware. In the recent past i used Lavasoft Adaware but it’s become a little too bloated for my taste. I’m sure its still a fair program tho… You can use both AntiMalware and Adaware at the same time if your a bit paranoid.

**To the answer above me, Symantec makes Norton Antivirus. They used to be best in class until about 7ish years ago when they started outsourcing their core programmers to India. After that it was downhill fast.

The best retail antivirus in my opinion is Kaspersky Antiviurs. I’ve used it on client’s computers and have been quite happy with it… Its your decision which you pick but please do youself a favor and steer clear of Norton (Symantec) and McAfee.

nope norton and mcafee are junk. use avg for virus’s, spybot s&d, and also ad-aware. those 3 programs are all excellent programs and have free versions.

No it is not. It is a resource hog. Avast is a good AntiVirus and Ad-Aware is a good anti-spyware.

Both are free

It works pretty well. But I would suggest you to use Avast anti virus system. I used the system and the system finds virus fast.

I have Norton AntiVirus 2009 and it is nothing special. It does the basic job of protecting but I am sure there are better programs. When I first installed it, my computer ran slow for awhile. If I go onto any websites that attempt to hack, it blocks it and notifies me as soon as it happens. There has been several times where it said I had a virus and told me that I had to do a system restore but then 3 days later the virus “disappeared” without me doing what it said to do.

Norton is okay. I’ve tried Norton, McAfee,AVG,Kaspersky. I love Kaspersky, it’s an awesome program, but a little pricey and takes up a little bit of room on your hard drive. AVG the free version is awesome too, my friends use it and have had no problems with it.

I just love Kaspersky because I had once opened an email and accidentally clicked on a link that I thought was supposed to take me to paypal, but ended up being a link trying to phish my computer for info, but the program stopped it from even trying anything.

I prefer AVG antivirus… it is free and takes up a LOT less resources… http://www.filehippo.com

It may not protect as well as some others- if you don’t mind paying for antivirus I have heard Panda was the best…

I did a google search for antivirus comparisons, and found this:

http://www.consumersearch.com/antivirus-software

The best ways to protect yourself from virus is not actually software, but just doing things that make sense- do not download illegal software and music, do not use bootleg software, stay off off adult sites, use mozilla firefox browser instead of Inter net explorer, dont open emails from people you dont know, or download attachments… I use AVG, Spybot, and yahoo mail, which has a virus scanner, and do not use a mail server at all…

hope this helps!

I do believe that they are. From what I understand they have some of the greatest hackers in the world to design and update their systems. If you want to know how to rob a bank, ask a bank robber. If you want to know how people wreck computers, ask a hacker!
